WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL HANDLING FEES (EHF) AND WHERE DOES IT GO?
Environmental Handling Fee is charged to sales for new electronic products in Ontario

This fee is for the cost of collecting, transporting, and recycling end of life electronic products such as smartphones and laptops.
This fee is not a tax or a refundable deposit. The funds are used for recycling programs for electronic products purchased by consumers. They ensure that the electronic items you buy don’t end up in landfills and are recycled responsibly for the valuable components they contain and the substances of concern that are also present.
